Creativity in therapy
During the therapy journey, creativity in all its forms can be a window into other facets of self or a means of self-expression that simply talking (though important) cannot quite touch upon. Or a means of self-care, a way to relax and unwind.
When it comes to creativity, many folks have been judged early in life, whether positively or negatively and everything in between. Forming a belief in oneself that has stuck right into adulthood. For some, sadly dismissing themselves as 'not artistic,' or 'not this,' or 'not that.' But the truth is, creativity is what we humans do. And it can be so helpful in therapy for some, for many. We all have something to bring to the table. A song, a poem, a cake, a dance, a painting that says so very much but leaves you wondering what on earth that is. It doesn't have to be perfect; it just has to be yours. And in a world of AI where fakery is everywhere, it feels even more important to celebrate and respect our human beingness.
Here is a poem, an expression of the therapy journey.
Rest
Put down the heavy load, oh weary one - Rest.
Take your seat on the mossy-green stone at the edge of the giant waterfall - listen to the hum of the air- Rest.
For the stars do not care how long you stay; they will light up the sky anyway—until the sun ushers in a brand-new day - Rest.
